High Economic Growth
High economic growth in Poland should continue for at least a few next quarters. It can be, however, accompanied by an intense growth of prices, according to a report of the National Bank of Poland (NBP) on inflation, which is to exceed 2.5% at the end of this year, and to reach 3.5% in the second quarter of 2009, unless interest rates are not changed in this period. Moreover, the report of the NBP also states that this year the Gross Domestic Product is to increase by some 6.5%, and in the following years the pace of economic growth is to reach about 5.3%.
Gazprom in Poland
Gazprom, a Russian energy giant, may enter the Polish fuel market. Gazprom is having talks with the British fuel concern BP, concerning a takeover of its network of petrol stations in Poland. Gazprom itself may become its operator in the framework of a joint venture with the ally from the United Kingdom, or the network may be taken over by Gazprom Nieft, which is an oil branch of the gas giant, and which will have to spend even as much as USD 600 million on BP petrol stations, the number of which exceeds 300. Analysts, however, do not forecast a revolution on the Polish market - the leading positions of PKN Orlen and the Lotos Group will not be threatened.
Ecological Food
Poland is to face a boom on the market of ecological food, the value of which is estimated at PLN 300 million. Experts assess that in the next years the market is to grow at the level of 30% annually. The largest share in the sales of this type of products will be taken by small shops, unlike in other states of the European Union, where they are best sold in big supermarkets. A small number of ecological farms and food processing manufacturers, which at present is slightly above 9,000, comes as an opportunity to small shops. Analysts estimate that in 2008, the total number of shops with ecological food is to grow in Poland by 10%. Nowadays, there are 300 of them, which means that there are eight shops like that per 1 million inhabitants. To compare, in Germany there are 194 shops of the kind per 1 million inhabitants and in the Czech Republic - 54
