Art Full of Energy
The exhibition of paintings by Wilhelm Sasnal in the Zachęta Gallery has met with great interest. Wilhelm Sasnal is a young Polish artist who is also internationally famous. He has both many fans and numerous opponents, like every artist who is brave enough to show something new. Sasnal is fashionable, he has had a photo session for Marc Jacobs top fashion house. The Warsaw exhibition is the first cross-sectional presentation of Sasnal's artistic works in Poland. His art is full of some kind of energy, claim lovers of Sasnal's art. It is worth checking for yourselves. The exhibition will be open until March 2.

Pola Negri Square
In Warsaw, in its very center, there will be Pola Negri Square. Pola Negri is one of these Polish women whom the whole world has loved. Her real name was Apolonia Chałupiec (1896-1987), and she was a great star of the American silent cinema. She was born in Lipno, but she started her career in Warsaw, where she attended a ballet school, and had her debut on a theater stage. She also studied acting in the Theater Academy in Warsaw and debuted in Maidens Vows (Śluby panieńskie), a comedy by Polish author, Aleksander Fredro. At the age of seventeen, she became a favorite of the audience, which was a natural result of her great talent and unique beauty. Soon, Pola Negri went to Berlin to start her international career. From Berlin, she moved to Hollywood, where she immediately became a true star. She was also famous for her affair with Rudolph Valentino.

Santana  and Iron Maiden in Warsaw
Carlos Santana and Iron Maiden are the first great stars who have announced their concerts in Warsaw this summer. Santana, one of the greatest guitarists in the world, is to play in Warsaw on June 27, but it has not been decided on yet where the concert will be organized. The legendary heavy metal band, Iron Maiden is to perform, on July 29 in Torwar in Warsaw. The concert is a part of their Somewhere Back In Time World Tour, which is to present the songs from 1980s.

Warsaw Dark
Christopher Doyle (our photo), a famous Australian cameraman, directed a film in Warsaw about the Polish reality. It is supposed to be a political thriller entitled Warsaw Dark. The script for the film was written by Maciej Pisarek, who used the dramatic story of the murder on a Polish minister of sports that took place a few years ago under mysterious circumstances. The film features Polish actors. The authors announce that it is to be a very mysterious film. Christopher Doyle has already directed a few ambitious productions, for instance, Dive Bar Blues, but he is famous, in the first pace, as the favorite cameraman of some outstanding Asian directors. The premiere of Warsaw Dark is scheduled for May, at the festival in Cannes.

Italian Artists Present
Different Looks is the title of the exhibition of contemporary Italian art that will be presented from January 26 to February 10 in the WorkshopGallery (PracowniaGaleria, www.pracowniagaleria.pl) at 4 Emilii Plater Street. Italian artists use various techniques in their work, such as painting, sculpture, photography and digital arts. The Warsaw exhibition centers on the issue of the unity of looking at something. Different Looks shows the variety of contemporary Italian art, in which different currents meet and spread, from abstractionism to figurative art.

Premiere of Katyń in Berlin
Katyń, the latest film by Andrzej Wajda, telling the story of Polish officers interned during the Second World War and murdered by the Soviets, is to have its international premiere during the 58th International Film Festival in Berlin that will be organized on February 7-17. The film has got to the official selection, it will be, however, shown without competing. The ceremonial presentation of the film, in which the director and the actors are to participate, will be organized in the Berlinale Palast, a festival palace.

Best DJ of the World
DJ Eprom, a Polish DJ from Warsaw, was awarded the title of the best DJ of the world during the championship competition in this field organized in Cracow. It was the first time when a Polish representative triumphed during this famous event, winning in as many as two categories, namely technical and show. The participants in the competition were assessed by a five-person international jury. The job of a DJ is connected to using a record player and the record it plays as a live instrument, which is far from their traditional use.

Award to the Tree That Fulfils Dreams
This has been the first Polish success in the history of the International Emmy Award. The award in the category of programs for children and teenagers went to Magical Tree (Magiczne drzewo), a television series directed by Andrzej Maleszka. The Polish series beat films from Singapore, Australia and Brazil, which were also nominated to the award. So far, the viewers have seen seven out of thirteen planned parts of the series, which was made in 2003-2006. The hero of the film is a magical oak tree, and more precisely, the objects that have been made of it: a sled, a dice, a colored pencil, a pair of clogs and a wardrobe, which can make children's dreams come true. In the series, there are Polish professional actors playing next to children. Maleszka's film has already received twenty international awards, for instance, in Munich and in Canada, at the 24th TV Banff International Program Festival.
