German Treasures in the Royal Castle
This is not the end of attractions, though. The Royal Castle (Zamek Królewski) invites to another fantastic event. The exhibition is entitled From Luther to Bauhaus. Art and Treasures of Culture from German Museums (Od Lutra po Bauhaus. Sztuka i skarby kultury z muzeów niemieckich). It is a large-scale presentation of German collections in Poland and it has managed to gather numerous unique works of art. You can see not only paintings by the most outstanding German artists, but also sculptures, furniture and other unique objects from German Renaissance and Baroque exhibition halls. All these exhibits come from twenty museums of the former German Democratic Republic. The exhibition was presented for the first time in Bonn in 2005, and it was addressed to those citizens of Germany who did not know the art of the eastern lands. At the exhibition, there are also many Polish motifs thanks to, for instance, the famous Italian painter Canaletto, who was connected with Dresden and with Warsaw for years, as King of Poland and Saxony August III the Saxon moved from the former to the latter.

Rubens and Other Painters in Warsaw
This exhibition is a real event at the end of this year. The National Museum (Muzeum Narodowe) invites you - if such an invitation is at all necessary - to see the masterpieces of Flemish painting, including the pictures of such eminent artists as Peter Paul Rubens and Anton van Dyck. The title of the exhibition is The Golden Age of Flemish Painting (Zloty wiek malarstwa flamandzkiego), and it is considered the largest exhibition of this kind of painting in Poland after the Second World War. The works of Flemish artists come from the collections of the museums in Vienna, as well as from German and Polish museums, and from private collections. In Warsaw, the exhibition will be presented until the end of December, and later it will go to the National Museum in Gdańsk, where it will be opened in mid-January.
Copernicus on the Vistula River
The Modern Copernicus Center of Polish Science (Centrum Nauki Polskiej Kopernik) is being constructed on the bank of the Vistula River in Warsaw. The design of the Center was selected in an international competition. The winners - young Polish architects from the Laboratory of Architecture in Ruda Śląska - convinced the jury with their design that ideally fits the surrounding area and meets the requirements of the institution. The building will be 12 meters high, and it will have two stories, where on the surface of 15,000 square meters, there will be permanent and temporary exhibitions, laboratories, workshops, a conference center, cafes, restaurants and offices. Another characteristic feature of the Center is a planetarium located in a hall that is similar to an erratic block. In the basement, there will be a parking lot and workshops for the development of new exhibitions and conservation works. The first stage of the construction covers the A module of the building with the majority of halls for permanent exhibitions, while the second stage - the B module and the planetarium. The A module is to be ready within 16 months, and the B module - within 23 months. If there are no delays, the Copernicus Center of Polish Science will be opened at the end of 2009.
Germans to Give EUR 5 Million
The Germans are to give EUR 5 million for the construction of the Museum of the History of Polish Jews (Muzeum Historii Żydów Polskich) in Warsaw. Before the Second World War, Warsaw had the largest population of Jews in Europe, while Poland had the largest population of this nation in the whole world. This was related to the long tradition of tolerance for Jews in Poland, where they found homes after being forced to leave other countries. That is why the problem of Holocaust disquieted our country so enormously. The idea to construct the Museum of the History of Polish Jews was born in 1990s. The President of Germany at that time, Roman Herzog, backed up the idea and promised to give financial support for its development. In June 2007, the cornerstone of the Museum was laid in the presence of the President of Poland, Lech Kaczyński, and the President of Germany, Richard von Weizsecker. The opening of the Museum has been planned for 2010.
Director from Warsaw in Munich
Famous director, Krzysztof Warlikowski, who is to become the head of one of Warsaw theaters, has been developing his international career for a few years now. His theater and opera performances attract attention and are frequently perceived as controversial. As Warlikowski, who is a philosopher, a linguist and a director by profession, has his own vision of the contemporary theater and opera, he tries to interpret the works of art in his own way, even if it is opposed by the audience, especially its more conservative representatives. Recently, Krzysztof Warlikowski has directed the famous opera by Peter Tchaikovsky, entitled Eugene Onegin at Bayerische Staatsoper in Munich. He moved the story to the 1960s, to the times when people landed on the moon and when the sexual revolution started. Furthermore, Warlikowski added a gay motif to Tchaikovskyís opera (between the title hero and Lensky), which was a reference to the sexual orientation of the composer. This made the conservative part of the audience whistle to protest against such treatment of the favorite opera, while the young audience gave the director an ovation. Still, this is not strange to a rebellious artist! Soon, Krzysztof Warlikowski is to direct at operas in Brussels and in Paris.
