Spanish ladies love the Polish man
The most popular Polish man in Spain - aside from Lech Wałesa, that is ‘is Darek Dąbrowski. This is according to Spanish ladies, mainly those who read colorful tabloids. Mr. Dąbrowski, who worked in Poland as a model and dancer, went to Spain a few years ago and gained excellent command of the Spanish language, and fell (mutually!) in love with a very popular Spanish actress, Anie Obregon, who is significantly older than him though charming and lovely. For a few years, their love attracted the attention of the press for ladies. Mr. Dąbrowski also made appearances on television, among other things, in a program about his Polish homeland, and Spanish ladies have fallen in love with our handsome, blue-eyed countryman. Today, the love affair between the two is history, but Mr. Dąbrowski has not lost popularity, which he gained for his acting skills, among other things. When we asked what he dreams of, Darek Dąbrowski answered: ‘I want to be happy. And also for my loved ones to be happy, too.’

Warsaw around the world
Images from cameras mounted on the roof of the Intercontinental Hotel are promoting Warsaw to the entire world. The cameras belong to Earth TV, which broadcasts programs live from 60 locations around the world every day. The viewers of 200 private, public and cable operators can access it. Its broadcasts are also shown on the Internet and in transport lines, such as trains. In all, they reach 2.5 million viewers. The cameras show pictures from all over the city, including panoramas and close-ups of particular places. For example, parts of the Old Town, the Śląsko-Dąbrowski Bridge, and the demolished Dziesięciolecie Stadium - where the National Stadium will be built - can all be viewed. Earth TV shows our city exactly as it really is. Warsaw authorities have signed an agreement for two hours of transmission a day. The agreement is valid until the end of the year, for now.

The National Stadium on TV
As is well known, the ceremonial opening of the European football championships, Euro2012, will take place in Warsaw. The new National Stadium is being built in our city for the occasion, in place of the former Dziesięciolecie Stadium, which in recent years served the function of... a bazaar - upposedly the largest one in Europe. The construction of the National Stadium has aroused strong emotions and great interest. It is therefore no surprise that the Warsaw authorities and Warsaw Destination Alliance have made sure (though not for free, of course!) that the work in progress can be viewed on television. Images will be systematically broadcasted for two hours a day.

Warsaw, meaning ‘Surprise yourself’
Two media giants, BBC and CNN, are emitting four spots a day for six weeks to advertise Warsaw. Their main hero is Frederic Chopin, who was born in Żelazowa Wola, near Warsaw and who spent half of his life in our city. Warsaw is portrayed as a dynamic, culturally rich city which is full of youthful energy and opportunities for doing good business.
The motif which is woven into the advertisements consists of three key dates: 2010, when the 200th anniversary of the birth of Chopin will be celebrated, 2012, when Euro2012 will be inaugurated at the National Stadium in Warsaw, and 2016, the competition to grant Warsaw the title of European Cultural Capital. The slogan for the campaign advertising Warsaw on BBC is ‘Surprise yourself’. And the spots show Warsaw in an optimistic and unaffected way.

The best building in the world in Warsaw
Three buildings from Poland have been included on the list of the best buildings in the world, as announced by The International Architecture Awards (IAA), which has given awards to architects and their designs for the last three years. The originator of the award is the Museum of Architecture in Chicago. During the first edition of the competition, 33 designs from around the world were honored, and this year, as many as 114 designs were honored out of more than a thousand submissions. Among the designs selected there are three from Poland: two of them have already received a number of awards - Dom Atrialny and Dom Ukryty, from the studio KWK Promes Roberta Koniecznego in Katowice, and the third one is for the as-yet-unbuilt design for the Museum of the History of Polish Jews in Warsaw, designed by the Finnish studios of Lahdelma & Mahlamaki Associates. The Warsaw museum, the building of which is to begin in two months, is supposed to be an example of architecture whose form carries content. The interesting tear in the facade of the building, which will stand near the Monument to the Heroes of the Ghetto, symbolizes the parting of the Red Sea during the Biblical exodus of the Jews from Egypt.

Hilton Garden Inn
A Hilton Garden Inn will soon be opened in Warsaw. It will be the second Hilton in our city. The shell of the building is already standing. Hilton Garden Inn is a hotel for business clients. According to research done by the chain, guests at these hotels generally spend no more than two days there. The Warsaw hotel will be at the intersection of two busy roads, Sikorskiego and Sobieskiego, in the Stegny district, which is a bit out of the way compared to the city center. However, it will be very well-connected to the airport. The opening of the Hilton Garden Inn is planned for the end of next year.
