In March, the 14th Easter Ludwig van Beethoven Festival will be organized. Its motto this year reads: „Beethoven, Music and Piano Phenomenon. Chopin and Schumann Year”. From the 21st of March to the 3rd of April, several excellent pianists will perform all the symphonies by the festival patron as well as the great Romantic opera by Carl Maria von Webber entitled Euryanthe with a star-studded cast. Moreover, we will be able to see the project entitled Our Chopin Affair, combining classical music, jazz and fado, presented by Misia, a Portuguese fado master.

The National Philharmonic (Filharmonia Narodowa) celebrates the 200th anniversary of Frederic Chopin’s birth with a series of concerts written by the composer. On the 5th and on the 7th of March – Chopin’s fascinations with opera, or Norma by Vincenzo Bellini in a concert version and with an international cast, conducted by Antoni Wit, director of the Warsaw National Philharmonic. On the 16th of March – the Academy of Ancient Music will present the compositions by Antonio Vivaldi and G.B. Pergolesi (e.g. Stabat Mater by the two composers). On the 18th of March – Chopin’s piano concerto in F minor, Opus 22 and music by S. Prokofiev and M. Mussorgsky. On the 19th and on the 20th of March – a concert by the musicians of the National Philharmonic conducted by Jonathan Darlington presenting the works by J. Brahms, A. Dvorak and E. Bloch. On the 26th and on the 29th of March – concerts within the 14th Easter Ludwig van Beethoven Festival.

The Grand Theater (Teatr Wielki) in March presents, among other things, the premiere of La traviata opera – on the 2nd, on the 3rd and on the 4th of March. On the 14th and on the 16th of March – the Oresteia opera, on the 18th of March – Madame Butterfly, on the 19th of March – a ballet show by young Warsaw choreographers, on the 24th, the 28th and the 31st of March – Elektra and on the 25th of March – Swan Lake.

The Warsaw Chamber Opera (Warszawska Opera Kameralna, WOK) on the 7th of March invites to the premiere of The Burning Fiery Furnace by B. Britten, and on the 11th of March – to the symphony concert in the Royal Castle (Zamek Królewski). In the repertoire, the symphonic concerts by L. van Beethoven and F. Schubert conducted by Kai Bumann.

The Roma Music Theater still delights with The Phantom of the Opera by A. L. Webber which is considered the musical of all time.

The National Museum (Muzeum Narodowe), from the 19th of March to the 16th of May, invites to the very interesting exhibition entitled Raphael’s Ceramics (Ceramika Rafaela). It is the first presentation of Renaissance majolica and drawings referring to Raphael in Poland. Majolica (istoriato) is one of the greatest phenomena in the history of European ceramics.

The Zachęta Gallery, from the 20th of March to the 13th of June, presents the exhibition with a provocative title Gender Check (Płeć? Sprawdzam). It is the first representative review of East-European art dedicated to the issue of gender roles of the 1960s. An extremely interesting exhibition indeed!

In the Asian Gallery (5 Freta St), you can see the exhibition entitled Golden Burma (Złota Birma). It presents the art and crafts of Myanmar – the unique collection of Burmese art belonging to Andrzej Wawrzyniak, director of the Asia and Pacific Museum (Muzeum Azji i Pacyfiku), one of the largest collections in Europe.

From among the rich offer of March concerts and exhibitions it is worth naming the concert by Florence and the Machine in the Stodoła club (on the 6th of March). It is the first performance the musicians, who were the stars of the latest Glastonbury festival, will have in Poland. Stodoła also invites to the concert by diamond-like voice owner Angie Stone (on the 17th of March) and the concert by the Method Man group, which will be a feast for hip hop lovers (on the 31st of March).

And Sala Kongresowa invites to the performance by Irish dance masters in the show entitled Gaelforce Dance (on the 20th and on the 21st of March), to Alan Parsons Live Project (on the 16th of March) and Alexander Malinin singing Russian romances (on the 27th of March).
