The National Museum, aside from its permanent, rich collection, which is surely interesting to every tourist, invites you to the exhibit 'Punkty odniesienia' (Points of Reference), a presentation of contemporary Polish paintings belonging to the Foundation of Contemporary Art Collections (Fundacja Zbiorów Sztuki Współczesnej). It includes the works of 19 artists, both younger and older.
Galeria Zach ta is presenting three interesting exhibits in September. The first one is 'Pies w wielkim mieście' (A Dog in a City) from the series 'Pokój z widokiem' (Room with a View), which consists of paintings, pictures and films (until the 7th of September). The second exhibit is called 'Autoportret w powidokach' (on until the 2nd of October) which is an cross-section exhibition with paintings, performances, and poetic works by Włodzimierz Pawlak, a member of the famous artistic formation Gruppa. The third exhibit, 'Rewolucje 68', shows the stormy year 1968 in Europe in paintings, films, videos, and photographs.
At the Royal Castle, there is an exhibition that presents the wonderful treasures of the cathedral in Vilnius, the capital of Lithuania. These historic objects of sacral art are made of silver and gold and encrusted in precious gems; they were hidden away for many years from the communists who occupied Lithuania.
In Pałac Pod Blachą (the Copper-Roof Palace), which is contiguous with the Royal Castle building, there is a beautiful exhibit presenting carpets of the East from the collection of the Foundation of Teresa Sahakian (1915-2007), a Belgian Pole who was the wife of an Armenian diplomat and collector. The carpets represent the main tendencies of this eastern art. It includes Persian, Anatolian, central Asiatic and Caucasian carpets. Some of them are as much as 200 years old.
At the Museum of Asia and the Pacific there is a very interesting exhibition called 'People, spirits, wood' about the art of the Asmat tribe from Indonesian Papua.
In the rich repertoire of the Grand Theater it is worth drawing attention to guest appearances (on the 18th, 19th, 20th and 21st of September) of the famous ballet from St. Petersburg, which is directed by the excellent choreographer Boris Ejfma. The Warsaw performances will be combined with the artist's 60th birthday. While in Warsaw, the dancers from St. Petersburg will present the ballet 'Russian Hamlet - the son of Catherine the Great' to the music of L. van Beethoven and G. Mahler, and a Gala.
At the Roma Music Theater, the musical 'Phantom of the Opera' by Andrew Lloyd Webber, which premiered in March of this year, has enjoyed sustained unwavering success. It is no surprise, because this musical is always talked about and written about as an event which brings great pleasure to audiences. And this comes from its wonderful literary invention and beautiful music. This performance cannot be missed.
The Warsaw Chamber Opera (WOK - Warszawska Opera Kameralna) presents the Twenty-seventh Festival of Early Polish Music in the Historical Buildings of Warsaw, from the 16th of September to the 8th of October. The concerts will take place in the Royal Castle, the Seminary Church, and in the beautiful chamber hall of WOK. More information about the festival in English is available from www.operakameralna.pl
Last but not least, a special invitation to the Main Building of the National Library at Al. Niepodległości 213 for an exhibition presenting one of the most valuable Polish collections of an aristocratic family, the Tarnowski counts of Dzików, which will be on until the 18th of October. In a very modern way, 'Ex Collectione Dzikoviana' presents paintings, sculptures, priceless manuscripts, old prints and photographs which were collected over centuries; they are accompanied by numerous multimedia presentations and video installations, all of which create an unusual ambiance of an expressive and extensive scenography. The priceless collections of the Tarnowski family from Dzików were scattered after World War II, and they are being shown to the public for the first time in 60 years.
And, as always, we extend an invitation to visit the Botanical Garden in Powsin. It is truly an enchanted garden in September.
