WHERE TO GO - 11.2009
The National Philharmonic invites you to a guest performance on the 8th of November by the symphonic orchestra from Stuttgart; under the direction of Sir Roger Norrington, it will perform works by R. Wagner, F. Nosowski, and R. Schumann. On the 13th and 14th, there will be concerts by members of the Varsovian philharmonic, directed by Gerd Albrecht, with soloists Petra Rose (soprano) and Artur Ruciński (baritone). The repertoire includes L. Lechner and J. Brahms. As well, on the 24th of November, on the 250th anniversary of the death of G. F. Handel, a concerto version of this composer’s opera „Serse” will be performed; Wolfgang Katschner will be conducting.
The Grand Theater invites you to a premiere which will take place on the 7th of November, on its chamber opera stage. It will be „The Fall of the House of Usher,” by Philip Glass. It is a tale that takes place on the border between reality and hallucination. Other performances will take place on the 8th, 14th, 15th, and 22nd of November. On the big stage of the Grand Theater, on the 8th of November, „Manone Lescaut” by G. Puccini will be performed, and on the 10th of November, there will be a concert by an American smooth jazz trumpet player. On the 26th of November, there will be a guest appearance by the Tchaikovsky Symphonic Orchestra, under the direction of Vladimir Fiedosiejev. Warszawska Opera Kameralna (WOK – the Warsaw Chamber Opera), as part of its 2nd G. F. Handel Festival, is presenting theatric works by this composer – „Imeneo” and „Rinaldo”.
At the Roma Music Theater, the great hit musical by Andrew Lloyd Webber, „Phantom of the Opera”, has reigned supreme for some time now. It is always worth seeing in order to improve your autumn mood.
At the National Museum, there is a wonderful occasion for photography lovers, because there is a great collection of Polish and world photography, from the rich collection of the Warsaw museum, which bought the first prints by Karol Bayer (1818-1877) as early as 1863.
At Galeria Zachęta there is an exhibition called „Spojrzenia” (Views), which presents the work of the most interesting young Polish artists, and the humorously titled exhibition „Siusiu w torcik” (To Pee in a Bun), which shows the gallery’s various collections that until now had not ever been presented.
Galeria Azjatycka (the Asian Gallery) at 5 Freta Street has an interesting exhibit, called „Wojownicy, piękności i demony” (Warriors, beauties, and demons), which presents wonderful Chinese theater dolls. The Asia and Pacific Museum, which Galeria Azjatycka is part of, has more than 1,500 of these dolls.
On the 6th of November, at Sala Kongresowa (the Congress Hall), there will be a performance by a famous singer and mistress of mood, Diana Krall, who has a large following of fans. While in Poland, the singer will promote her newest album, „Quiet Nights”. Diana Krall will also perform in Zabrze and Wrocław.
On the 11th of November, Gary Moore will perform at Warsaw Torwar, and on the 13th, the group „Gregorian” will perform at Sala Kongresowa (the Congress Hall). On the 17th of November, at the club Stodoła, there will be a concert by the perfectly stylized and controversial provocateur, rocker Marilyn Manson. As well, on the 30th of November, also at Sala Kongresowa (the Congress Hall), there will be a concert by „Electric light orchestra”, which will also be accompanied by a symphonic orchestra.
Of course, these are but a few of our cultural events for November days.
